How to Install and Activate WordPress Plugins

WordPress is very simple and feature rich blogging platform. Plugin Installation is one of the most useful and simple feature of WP that allow users to easily customize and personalize there blogs. Specially for newbie bloggers plugins help a lot in minimizing coding work. It doesn’t matter, if you don’t know about CSS or HTML, because there are plenty of useful plugins for every function and feature. The only thing you need is to know that how to install and activate wordpress plugin.

There are 3 simple methods through which you can install a WP Plugin in your Blog.

1. Download Plugin

2. Install Direct From Dash Board

3. From WebHosting Account

1. Download Plugin Then Install

Let say you downloaded a plugin from a blog or Worpdress Plugin Directory. (All the plugins are compressed files and in .ZIP format.) Now we have to install the plugin in our blog.

  • Loign to your WordPress Blog

  • In this page you will have to click on “Browse” button and select the plugin file from the location where you save the plugin file. After selecting click on “Install Now” button.wordpress plugin installation How to Install and Activate Wordpress Plugins
  • After clicking the “Install Now” button, WP will install the plugin and redirect you to another page. From where you can “Activate “ the plugin.activate plugin How to Install and Activate Wordpress Plugins

This was the first method.

2. Install Direct From Dash Board

If you don’t want to download the plugin file to your computer hard drive, then there is a very simple method through which you can install WP Plugins.

Go to DashBoard>Plugins>Add New Page (As done in the previous method) and type the name of the plugin you want to install in the search box. OR you can also use “Popular Tags” to find plugins and then install. Simply click on the respective tag and then install your required plugins.

Let say you want to install “GoCodes” plugin in your blog. Type the name and click on “Search Plugins” button.

You will see a confirmation message that “Are you sure you want to install this plugin”, Click on Yes. WP will install the plugin and redirect you to the next page from where you can activate the plugin.

This method is little bit complected. If you are not familiar with your webhosting account, then it is recommended to follow the above two methods. However some time you will need to install a plugin through FTP clients. For this method you can use FileZilla which is a ftp client that allow you to access your FTP account.

Install FileZilla and Get your FTP access info from your webhosting support team. Type your Host, Username, Password and Port address in the box and click on “Quick Connect”.

Now find the Plugin file in Left Side Box (Your Computer Hard drive) and Double click on the Plugin File. Transfer it to the public_html>BlogFile>wp-content>plugins location.

Note:- BlogFile is the blog for which you want to install Plugin.
